The Library will be hosting several workshops for students interested in learning how to navigate their online courses. The workshop will cover the basics of logging in, finding content, posting discussions, sending email, checking grades, uploading assignments, taking tests and more.

All workshops will be held in the Van Cura Instruction Room in the Library.

Laptops Available in the Library

Laptops are now available in the library. Morton students may check out a laptop from the Circulation Desk after they provide both their Morton Student ID and their Illinois State Id. For more info visit the library.

Next Edition of the Literary Journal

The library is now accepting submissions for the next issue of the Morton Literary Journal. If you would like your work to be considered for publication, email it to reference@morton.edu. We are accepting original poems, short stories, and essays. Please also submit original photographs and artwork. Full submission guidelines are below.

All pieces must be submitted by December 30 to be considered for the January issue.

Morton Poetry Journal-Guidelines for Submission
Deadline for current issue is midnight on Friday, December 30, 2011.
The Journal will be published twice a year, once in fall and once in winter and will be available on campus and online free of cost.
Submissions are welcome from all current Morton Students. Work may be submitted by students who have attended Morton in the previous semester or who are registered for the upcoming semester. All instructors and staff are encouraged to submit work as well.
Submissions must be emailed to reference@morton.edu before the posted deadline for each issue. Written works may be emailed as an attachment or in the body of the email. If you want your work to be printed in a specific font or with stylized punctuation or styling, please submit your work as an attachment file. All photographs and images of artwork must be sent as a JPG or PDF. Works might be modified according space or size constraints. The Editors will not modify content.
Regarding photo and art submissions, please keep in mind that the journal will be printed in black and white on 8.5” by 5.5” pages. Please consider the size of the page when selecting the resolution and scale of your piece.
For print submissions, please do not exceed 1500 words.
All works submitted before the deadline will be considered by the Journal’s Editorial Board for inclusion in the magazine. The Library retains the right to publish all submitted work both in print and online.
All works must be original. We welcome all poems, essays, short stories, photographs, drawings, and comic strips.

Morton Literary Journal is Here!

The first new edition of the Morton Literary Journal is now available. Titled “Western Eclectic” (get it? it’s not Western Electric . . . .) the journal features the original work of Morton staff and students. Free copies are available on campus and in the library. Make sure you get yours before they are gone!

Donate to the Book Drive

Do you have piles of books laying around your house? Bring them to Morton. The Adult Education Community Programming and Outreach Department is having a book drive to celebrate family literacy week. They are collecting: art & photography, biography, kids, history, literature & fiction, non-fiction, poetry and science fiction titles. Please bring all books to rooms 217c or 220 during the week of September 12-23.
